Title: The Alchemist
Year: 1988
Genre: Adventure, Fantasy
Writer: Paulo Coelho

The Alchemist was written by Paulo Coelho and it sky rocketed him to fame. The book was originally published in Portuguese and was translated to 67 different languages. The Alchemist has become an international best seller and is still rising in popularity even today.

The Alchemist tells the story of Santiago, a young Andulasian shepherd who had a dream. A dream that tells him about his treasure that is hidden in the Pyramids of Egypt. Now he must go on a journey, a journey to realize his personal legend. He'll encounter different people who will help him to overcome the obstacles that he'll face and to guide him to the right path. The old woman, the King of Salem, the shopkeeper, the English man, Fatima, and the alchemist himself. Santiago must trust these people and to follow the omens in order for him to get into the soul of the world and to ultimately achieve what the universe has conspired to show him.

Paulo Coelho has done a superb job in writing this book. He managed to tell us the different things in life that we often neglect as we grow up. We will be reminded of the things that we let go of as we were getting older. We will remember the dreams that we tried to forget and to bury in the deepest depths of our heart because the people around us said so. Then we will find out that it is never too late to realize our dream. That even if we are already old we can still realize our personal legend and do the things that we have been dreaming to do.

The Alchemist is a simple book filled with life's different lessons. It is very easy to understand even for kids. The combination of fantasy and reality was superb. It is like reading a children's story book but with a twist.

We can all relate to Santiago's character since all of us have dreams. All of us felt what the young Andulasian shepherd boy has felt in his life. We can all see and learn that the only thing that prevents us from achieving our personal legend is our self. Paulo Coelho's simple writing has made The Alchemist easy to understand even to the young in years.

The Alchemist has already gotten a place in history and it brought Paulo Coelho's name with it. This book will never be forgotten and will always be remembered as one of the greatest books of all time. I can totally recommend reading this book because the lessons that you will learn can definitely help you see life from a totally new perspective. The Alchemist will surely change your life.

"It's the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting"
- Santiago
