(Online Article) Building Your Blog Structure

Wednesday, April 18, 2012

One major mistake of aspiring bloggers is not considering the structure of their blogs. The structure of a blog sometimes determine whether you will earn money off the Blogosphere or not.

There are certain things to consider when planning your blog structure.

  • The first thing you should take note of is the blog template that you are going to use. Choosing a simple blog template is usually better than those high-end ones which emphasizes more on graphics and usually takes more time to load.

  • Organizing is the key for your blog to be fully utilized by your readers. Grouping all related blog elements together such as labels and widgets will not only make your blog elegant but it will be easier to navigate as well.

  • Creating the correct blog labels is one way of organizing your blog. It is also not advisable to create many different blog labels. When you have labels such as "Mathematics" and "Science", you may want to try putting them under another label like "Subjects". This way you can diminish the huge amount of irrelevant labels in your blog.

  • Music is optional. Some blog authors prefer to embed a background music on their blog to entertain their readers. Other authors such as me though, do not embed music to maintain the professional look of our blogs. In the end it all boils down to the preference of the author.

  • Customizing your blog will distinguish it from the countless blogs that are scattered in the web. Try changing the background and the fonts of the template that you are using. You may also want to try creating your very own favicon to have some kind of signature for your blog.

  • Usage of simple and easy to understand words is advisable. Remember that not all people who reads your blog is fluent in the English language. It is your job as the author to provide them with words that are easy to comprehend.

There are also 2 fundamental elements in blog structuring. Those are "internal links" and "external links".

Internal links as the name suggests are the links which can be located inside your blog. They direct your readers to the different articles that you wrote in your blog which then result in more page views.

External links on the other hand are links which can be found outside your blog. They are usually links on other websites that direct to your blog for further reference.
