Title: The Godfather Part 2
Year: 1974
Genre: Gangster

Director: Francis Ford Coppola

The Godfather Part 2 is written and directed once again by Puzo and Coppola and is a direct sequel of The Godfather, a film released 2 years before this film. The Godfather Part 2 is partially based from Mario Puzo's original novel The Godfather. The Godfather Part 2 has two story lines, Don Vito's and Michael's, coinciding with each other.

The Godfather Part 2 starts with the childhood story of Don Vito and how he came to America. It coincides with Michael Corleone's present story. Michael Corleone, the new don of the Corleone crime family, deals with his current family and business problems. He was at his compound in Nevada when an assassination plot against him failed. He then starts to plan out his revenge on Hyman Roth, the man who he thinks planned the assassination attempt against him. Michael Corleone must now play his cards well in order to protect him and his family against their enemies.

The Godfather Part 2 is darker and more sinister than the first film. It is set on America on the late 1950s. Much like the first film, it features mafia and gangster like settings. The Godfather Part 2 goes deeper on how a crime family operates such as extorting money in order to control public officials and the police.

Al Pacino takes on his role as Michael Corleone, the new don of the Corleone crime family. Michael Corleone develops into a much darker and sinister character. Diane Keaton also portrays her original role as Kay, the wife of Michael.

The Godfather Part 2 is a great film and has made a name for itself as one of the greatest gangster film of all time. Sadly, I think that the previous The Godfather was better. Maybe because of the fact that I didn't really like what happened to Michael Corleone and the other characters in the film. I think that The Godfather Part 2 didn't really live up to its hype and is getting more positive acclaims than what it truly deserve.

8/10
