(Movie Review) The Three Musketeers

Title: The Three Musketeers
Year: 2011
Genre: Action/Comedy/Romance
Director: Paul William Scott Anderson

The Three Musketeers is based from the novel of the same title written by Alexandre Dumas.

The movie starts in Venice with Athos, Porthos, Aramis  and Milady attempting to steal one of Leonardo Da Vinci's blueprints. The musketeers succeed but they were betrayed by Milady who was working with Buckingham. D'Artagnan, a young man decides to go to Paris to become a musketeer like his father. In Paris he then found out that the musketeers were disbanded by Cardinal Richelieu for failing to acquire Leonardo's blueprints. Unknown to Buckingham, Milady was also working with Cardinal Richelieu to turn Europe into a battleground between England and France so that Cardinal Richelieu can seize power from the French throne. The musketeers are then sent on a mission to prevent the biggest war Europe has ever seen from happening. Failure is not an option.

I think that The Three Musketeers is very a great movie. It offers you 2 hours of amazing setting, plot, and characters. The truth is, I really like the setting of this film. The Three Musketeers was set on 17th century France. A setting which in my opinion has become quite rare in the movie scene today.

The Three musketeers feature an ensemble of all star casts such as Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson and the lightning thief), Mila Jovovich (Resident Evil), and Orlando Bloom (Pirates of The Caribbean). Mila Jovovich played the character of Milady very well. Mila Jovovich acted the parts with great athleticism combined with sexiness and I think that she has done a fantastic job.

The visual effects blend perfectly with the movie itself even though the visual effects weren't that stunning. I think that Paul William Scott Anderson has done an amazing job in directing The Three Musketeers. The lighting was perfect and the heroism was perfectly seen all throughout.

You can also see comedy and romance in the movie. I especially love the development of D'Artagnan and Contance into lovers. The scenes that I love the most though were the action scenes and I won't say what happened in those scenes since I want to avoid giving out spoilers.

The Three Musketeers is a great film to watch with your kids or even by yourself. Even though there were a lot of negative criticisms about the film on the web, the film still worked out for me. The assimilation of romance, comedy, and action was perfect and I'll definitely recommend you to watch it.
